Workshop – Leadership in JMV


I’m glad that we’ve gathered here for this workshop. I believe you have different expectations, questions, and experiences. We’ll work out this team in three sections. I didn’t choose the topics or themes that talk about the bureaucracy or organization, government. Why? Pope Francis speaks to us so many times that we deal to many times with this kind of things. I hope we’ll have this hour as an opportunity to value the way we lead the Association, and to help each other on some important questions you might have.

FIRST PART

Different groups; different countries. The groups have to discuss the statements:

  • A good leader must have much love for the Association, not only leadership talents.
  • A good leader must be mature, at least 25 years.
  • Association Leader must be a layman.
  • Good leadership depends on good communication.


SECOND PART

We are all leaders in one way - elected lay members and also advisors. We all share leadership roles. I want to talk for a while on a table, which can be very useful in facilitating the roles and relationships within your National or Regional Councils.


Type Leader: characteristics (calm, upstanding [person of character], self-confident, self-disciplined, focused on goals.; qualities (directs people into what’s best in their work, has no prejudices, very objective, makes good distribution of tasks in team, mostly has a special charisma, he’s not jealous) ; acceptable weaknesses ( he’s usual - without intellectual and creativity abilities, not creative thinker, doesn’t get original idea normally)

Innovator: characteristics (Individualist, serious, unusual, very intelligent); qualities (Genius, creative, inventive, intellect and knowledge. Knows how to resolve bigger problems. A person of ideas); acceptable weaknesses (Doesn’t see the details, too occupied with ideas and himself, quickly offended, stubborn, needs encouragement of a leader).

Researcher: characteristics (Relaxed, warm, social and curious. the nicest type of the team); qualities (Creates contacts, brings information and ideas from outside. Has a lot of outside contacts. Sees and promotes new ideas. Good improviser, works well under pressure); acceptable weaknesses (Can lose the starting momentum. Too optimistic. He may not finish what he’s in charge, too much time spent on unimportant things).

Promoter; characteristics (Social, dynamic, impulsive, quickly offended); qualities (Starts things in motion, often an informal leader of the team. The efforts of the team forms into the whole, focused on the objective); acceptable weaknesses (Prone to intolerance, provoking. He can be arrogant and acerbic, irritation).

Team worker: characteristics (Popular, kind, discreet, good listener. Sensitive to other); qualities (Listens, builds, prevents tensions, calms conflicts. Is the one who’s the most sensitive for the others, know the needs of others and can observe emotions in the team or group); acceptable weaknesses (He may be indecisive in critical situations and leaves to get affected easily).

Critic: characteristics (Intelligent, serious, reasonable, strategically oriented); qualities (Sees many opportunities, capable of correct judgment, doesn’t criticizes without a reason. Studies the materials, documents) acceptable weaknesses (Does not know how to motivate others, he can be too critical, pessimistic. The spontaneity and joy are missing often).

Performer: characteristics (Conservative, disciplined, reliable, effective); qualities (Practical in organization, the ideas and plans makes realizable. Works effectively, systematically and methodically); acceptable weaknesses (Can be inflexible, responds slowly to changes. He can compete for position in the team).

Finisher: characteristics (Hardworking, Accurate, Diligent); qualities (Ability of derivation things, perfectionist, keeps an eye on a time, searches for mistakes. Is not calm as long as every detail is checked) acceptable weaknesses (Can care too much, is workaholic and uneasy. He may reduce morality. He gets stuck on details frequently).


I ask you to stay together as national councils. I want to introduce different roles of a (team) group working together. Important: For a team it is ideal, if you can have all the characters represented here. Knowing different features can help us to understand each other better and to work better. If you do not have the characteristics of a leader does not mean you're not a good critic! 1. Each member tries to find what kind of a person is in a team 2. Try to define the types for other members you work with, too


Good leader is:

  • a person who connects (links) the team but also a equivalent member of the team
  • usually knows the most of the projects of the team
  • he’s resolving possible conflicts
  • keeps an eye on the time
  • flexible
  • motivates other members of the team

Team leader has two extreme options of leading:

  • formal leading – only the goal and effectiveness of it is important
  • actual leader – relationships are important.

We have to try to create a balance between them. It depends of the balance how the relationships and work is going to flow in a team.

THIRD PART


We will form x groups. Please talk about your realities, if they have questions to share, do so. Here are some questions to facilitate ideas, experiences.

  • What are the problems that have as leaders?
  • Does the slogans and guidelines (guidelines) of International Council helps you to lead the Association
  • Do you have some "team building" for your Councils?
  • Do you pray one for another?
  • What about if we don’t have a lay person 25 years old. Who should lead the Association?


The racing cars

B) Instruction Sheet Eight cars of different brands and colors are aligned side by side, for a run. Establish order in which the cars are placed, based on the following information:

1. The Ferrari is between the red and gray cars.

2. The gray car is to the left of the Mercedes.

3. The Mclaren is the second car to the left of the Ferrari and the first to the right of the blue car.

4. The BMW has no car to his right and is next to the black car.

5. The black car is between the BMW and the yellow car.

6. The Honda has no car to his left: is to the left of the green car.

7. To the right of the green car is the Volkswagen.

8. The Mercedes is the second car to the right of the white car and the second to the left of the brown car.

9. The Audi is the second car to the left of the Kia.

C) Solution:

1. The Honda, blue.

2. The Mclaren, green.

3. The Volkswagen, red.

4. The Ferrari, white.

5. The Audi, gray.

6. The Mercedes, yellow.

7. The Kia, black.

8. The BMW, brown.
