Venerable Lindalva Justo De Oliveira

Lindalva Justo De Oliveira was born 20 October 1953. At the end of the novitiate for this Daughter of Charity, she was sent to Dom Pedro II Home in El Salvador (Brazil). There she was responsible for a ward of 40 elderly men.

On 9 April 1993, Good Friday, after participating in a penitential celebration she was brutally murdered by a resident of Dom Pedro II Home for having defended her virginity.

The cause of her beatification was advanced at the gathering of the Congress of Theologians on 26 September 2006. In the case of martyrdom, which applies to the death of Sister Lindalva, miracles are not required for beatification. She was declared Venerable on 16 December 2006 and will be beatified in Sao Salvador da Bahia, Brazil on 2 December 2007 at a liturgy where Benedict XVI is expected to preside.

Because the date of Sister Lindalva's death, 9 April, falls during Lent or Easter, her memorial has been set for the date of her baptism, 7 January.
