Orientation

A.  Purpose of the Congregation of the Mission

The purpose of the CM is to follow Christ evangelizing the poor.  This purpose is achieved

when, faithful to St. Vincent, the members individually and collectively:

      1) Make every effort to put on the spirit of Christ himself, in order to acquire a holiness

          appropriate to their vocation.

      2) Work at evangelizing the poor, especially the most abandoned.

      3) Help the clergy and laity in their formation and lead them to a fuller participation in the

          evangelization of the poor.

B.  Purpose of the COVIAM Formator's Group: (Adopted July 10, 2001)

The purpose of the COVIAM Formator's Group is to form formators in the Christian and

Vincentian tradition of evangelizing the poor.  So that by the grace of God, we formators

may lead ourselves and our students to freedom from sin and to freedom from building the

Kingdom of God in Africa and Madagascar.

C.  Values of the COVIAM Formator's Group: (Adopted July 10, 2001)

      1.  Zealous evangelization of the poor.

      2.  Formation of a self-giving will so to enable ourselves to incarnate our faith in Jesus

Christ for service of the poor in Africa and Madagascar.

      3.  Inculturation of our faith and our Vincentian charism into the context of Africa

           and Madagascar.

      4.  To be agents of change in our culture.

D.  Purpose of this CURRENT COVIAM Formator's Group Formation Program:

To provide an integrated series of seminars in a reflective spiritual setting that will

enable a confrere in formation ministry to increase his knowledge and build on his

already acquired skills so he may experience increased satisfaction as a formator of

      Vincentian seminarians.

Foci of the program;

      1.  Examination of the CM tradition, past and present and an examination of the

present situation in Africa and Madagascar through the perspective of the four

           vows and five virtues.

      2.  Presentations of topics/skills which will aid the formator and those in formation

to live out the four vows and five virtues in Africa and Madagascar.
