THE FIVE CHARACTERISTIC VIRTUES OF THE C.M.
GOAL: Appreciate each of the five virtues in the life
and spirit of the C.M.

READINGS FOR THE NOVICES:
Common Rules Chapter II.
Maloney, R., "The Five Characteristic Virtues: Yesterday and
Today," Vincentiana 29 (l985), p. 226-254.; also in The
Way of Vincent de Paul, p.37-69.
NOTE: This section only treats the specifically Vincentian elements
of the five virtues. It needs to be complemented with
other sources.
This is the same excercise that was used with the vows.
The novices research the virtues in St. Vincent and try to find their
meaning for the Vincentian mission and life today. It's good to emphasize
that the virtues are about mission and service, not primarily personal
spirituality.
